YER/USD OTC is listed on Pocket Option and on no public market. The Yemeni rial has no freely traded rate: there is an official rate set by the Central Bank of Yemen, and a street rate that can be far from it. No bank quotes it against the dollar in the form Pocket Option uses, and the price you see is the platform’s own feed, open around the clock. This page explains what you are actually trading when you open YER/USD OTC, how the Yemeni rial is managed at home, what moves the price, and what the figures below mean.

What YER/USD OTC is

On the currency market, a pair needs two currencies that banks can actually exchange at a market price. The Yemeni rial is not one of them: it is convertible only through official channels, at a rate decided by the Central Bank of Yemen, while a parallel market trades it at another price. Neither of these is a continuous, quoted market the way EUR/USD is. Pocket Option therefore builds YER/USD OTC from its own price source, labelled “OTC” (over the counter), and keeps it open at weekends and at night. Our guide to Pocket Option OTC assets covers what that changes in practice: no outside chart to check the price against, and no economic calendar that applies.

How the Yemeni rial is managed

Yemen has had two central banks since 2016, one in Aden under the internationally recognised government and one in Sanaa under the Houthis, and two rials that trade at very different rates: the Aden rial has kept falling, while the Sanaa rial has been held by strict controls. Which rial a quote refers to is itself a question.

What moves YER/USD

The war, Saudi and Gulf financial support to Aden, oil and gas export disruptions and humanitarian flows move the Aden rial; administrative controls set the Sanaa one. None of this is a market a trading feed can follow: the OTC price on Pocket Option is the platform’s own.

The Yemeni rial in short

YER, the Yemeni rial. The currency of Yemen, issued by the Central Bank of Yemen. The same banknotes are worth different amounts depending on where in Yemen they are spent, a situation almost without equivalent in the world; it is the clearest case of a pair that exists only as a platform quotation.

USD, the US dollar. The other side of the pair and the world’s reference currency. On YER/USD, a stronger dollar pushes the price down and a weaker dollar pushes it up, the opposite of what you would see on USD/YER.

How to trade YER/USD OTC on Pocket Option

  • Start on the demo account. It is free, needs no deposit and shows the same OTC feed as the real account: how the Pocket Option demo works.
  • Read the payout before you trade. The figure in the box above is read on our own Pocket Option account and refreshed every 15 minutes; it changes during the day and is often lower on exotic pairs than on EUR/USD. At a 92% payout you need to be right on 52.1% of your trades just to break even: what the payout really means.
  • Keep the amount fixed. The same amount on every trade, whatever happened on the previous one. Our lesson on money management explains why this single rule decides whether an account survives.
  • Do not trade it on economic news. Reading the calendar makes sense on real-market assets; on an OTC pair, the feed does not react to a central bank decision the way the market does.
  • Be suspicious of “YER/USD OTC signals” sold online. Since the price comes from a single source nobody else can see, nobody can show you verified long-term results on it.

Frequently asked questions

Does YER/USD exist outside Pocket Option?

No. The Yemeni rial has an official rate and a parallel rate, neither of which is a quoted, continuous market. YER/USD OTC is a quotation that exists only on Pocket Option, from the platform’s own feed.

Why is YER/USD OTC open at weekends?

Because it is an OTC asset: its price comes from the platform’s own feed, not from the currency market, so it keeps quoting when the real market is closed. At those hours there is no outside reference for the price.

What is the payout on YER/USD OTC?

It changes during the day and from one asset to another. The box on this page shows the payout read on our own Pocket Option account, refreshed every 15 minutes, with the highest level the asset reaches.

What really moves YER/USD?

In the real economy, the war and foreign financial support; on the OTC feed, the platform’s own price source, with no outside reference.

Which other pairs are only on Pocket Option?

Eight other currencies quoted against the dollar in the same inverted way, and six Gulf and Middle East currencies against the yuan, all listed in the box above.
