Optencis is an affiliate of Pocket Option. Regulatory status and how we work
LBP/USD OTC is listed on Pocket Option and on no public market. The Lebanese pound has no freely traded rate: there is an official rate set by the Banque du Liban, and a street rate that can be far from it. No bank quotes it against the dollar in the form Pocket Option uses, and the price you see is the platform’s own feed, open around the clock. This page explains what you are actually trading when you open LBP/USD OTC, how the Lebanese pound is managed at home, what moves the price, and what the figures below mean.
What LBP/USD OTC is
On the currency market, a pair needs two currencies that banks can actually exchange at a market price. The Lebanese pound is not one of them: it is convertible only through official channels, at a rate decided by the Banque du Liban, while a parallel market trades it at another price. Neither of these is a continuous, quoted market the way EUR/USD is. Pocket Option therefore builds LBP/USD OTC from its own price source, labelled “OTC” (over the counter), and keeps it open at weekends and at night. Our guide to Pocket Option OTC assets covers what that changes in practice: no outside chart to check the price against, and no economic calendar that applies.
How the Lebanese pound is managed
From 1997 to 2019 the Lebanese pound was fixed at 1,507.5 to the dollar. The banking collapse of 2019 broke the peg: a parallel market took over, the pound lost about 98% of its value, and in early 2024 the central bank finally moved its official rate to 89,500 per dollar, close to the street. Lebanon’s economy has been largely dollarised since.
What moves LBP/USD
Political deadlock, the fate of the frozen bank deposits, remittances from the Lebanese diaspora and any IMF programme move the real pound. The central bank now keeps the official rate steady; the OTC feed on Pocket Option is the platform’s own price and does not follow Beirut’s exchange shops.
The Lebanese pound in short
LBP, the Lebanese pound. The currency of Lebanon, issued by the Banque du Liban. Prices in Lebanon are shown in both dollars and pounds, and the two circulate side by side; a trader should remember that the official rate has been flat since 2024 while the OTC quote keeps moving.
USD, the US dollar. The other side of the pair and the world’s reference currency. On LBP/USD, a stronger dollar pushes the price down and a weaker dollar pushes it up, the opposite of what you would see on USD/LBP.
How to trade LBP/USD OTC on Pocket Option
- Start on the demo account. It is free, needs no deposit and shows the same OTC feed as the real account: how the Pocket Option demo works.
- Read the payout before you trade. The figure in the box above is read on our own Pocket Option account and refreshed every 15 minutes; it changes during the day and is often lower on exotic pairs than on EUR/USD. At a 92% payout you need to be right on 52.1% of your trades just to break even: what the payout really means.
- Keep the amount fixed. The same amount on every trade, whatever happened on the previous one. Our lesson on money management explains why this single rule decides whether an account survives.
- Do not trade it on economic news. Reading the calendar makes sense on real-market assets; on an OTC pair, the feed does not react to a central bank decision the way the market does.
- Be suspicious of “LBP/USD OTC signals” sold online. Since the price comes from a single source nobody else can see, nobody can show you verified long-term results on it.
Frequently asked questions
Does LBP/USD exist outside Pocket Option?
No. The Lebanese pound has an official rate and a parallel rate, neither of which is a quoted, continuous market. LBP/USD OTC is a quotation that exists only on Pocket Option, from the platform’s own feed.
Why is LBP/USD OTC open at weekends?
Because it is an OTC asset: its price comes from the platform’s own feed, not from the currency market, so it keeps quoting when the real market is closed. At those hours there is no outside reference for the price.
What is the payout on LBP/USD OTC?
It changes during the day and from one asset to another. The box on this page shows the payout read on our own Pocket Option account, refreshed every 15 minutes, with the highest level the asset reaches.
What really moves LBP/USD?
In the real economy, politics, the banking crisis and remittances; on the OTC feed, the platform’s own price source, with no outside reference.
Which other pairs are only on Pocket Option?
Eight other currencies quoted against the dollar in the same inverted way, and six Gulf and Middle East currencies against the yuan, all listed in the box above.
