Optencis is an affiliate of Pocket Option. Regulatory status and how we work
IRR/USD OTC is listed on Pocket Option and on no public market. The Iranian rial has no freely traded rate: there is an official rate set by the Central Bank of Iran, and a street rate that can be far from it. No bank quotes it against the dollar in the form Pocket Option uses, and the price you see is the platform’s own feed, open around the clock. This page explains what you are actually trading when you open IRR/USD OTC, how the Iranian rial is managed at home, what moves the price, and what the figures below mean.
What IRR/USD OTC is
On the currency market, a pair needs two currencies that banks can actually exchange at a market price. The Iranian rial is not one of them: it is convertible only through official channels, at a rate decided by the Central Bank of Iran, while a parallel market trades it at another price. Neither of these is a continuous, quoted market the way EUR/USD is. Pocket Option therefore builds IRR/USD OTC from its own price source, labelled “OTC” (over the counter), and keeps it open at weekends and at night. Our guide to Pocket Option OTC assets covers what that changes in practice: no outside chart to check the price against, and no economic calendar that applies.
How the Iranian rial is managed
Iran runs several exchange rates at once: a preferential rate for essential imports, a rate on the official currency exchange centre used by exporters and importers, and an open-market rate in Tehran’s exchange shops, which is the one most Iranians actually use. The gap between them has been wide for years, and the open-market rate has lost most of its value against the dollar since the return of US sanctions in 2018.
What moves IRR/USD
Sanctions, the state of the nuclear talks, oil export volumes and inflation drive the open-market rial far more than any central bank decision. None of that reaches an OTC feed in real time: the platform’s price is its own, and it keeps moving at weekends when no exchange shop is open.
The Iranian rial in short
IRR, the Iranian rial. The currency of Iran, issued by the Central Bank of Iran. The rial is one of the world’s least valued currencies per unit, which is why prices in Iran are commonly quoted in tomans (ten rials) and why a redenomination that drops four zeros has been on the table for years.
USD, the US dollar. The other side of the pair and the world’s reference currency. On IRR/USD, a stronger dollar pushes the price down and a weaker dollar pushes it up, the opposite of what you would see on USD/IRR.
How to trade IRR/USD OTC on Pocket Option
- Start on the demo account. It is free, needs no deposit and shows the same OTC feed as the real account: how the Pocket Option demo works.
- Read the payout before you trade. The figure in the box above is read on our own Pocket Option account and refreshed every 15 minutes; it changes during the day and is often lower on exotic pairs than on EUR/USD. At a 92% payout you need to be right on 52.1% of your trades just to break even: what the payout really means.
- Keep the amount fixed. The same amount on every trade, whatever happened on the previous one. Our lesson on money management explains why this single rule decides whether an account survives.
- Do not trade it on economic news. Reading the calendar makes sense on real-market assets; on an OTC pair, the feed does not react to a central bank decision the way the market does.
- Be suspicious of “IRR/USD OTC signals” sold online. Since the price comes from a single source nobody else can see, nobody can show you verified long-term results on it.
Frequently asked questions
Does IRR/USD exist outside Pocket Option?
No. The Iranian rial has an official rate and a parallel rate, neither of which is a quoted, continuous market. IRR/USD OTC is a quotation that exists only on Pocket Option, from the platform’s own feed.
Why is IRR/USD OTC open at weekends?
Because it is an OTC asset: its price comes from the platform’s own feed, not from the currency market, so it keeps quoting when the real market is closed. At those hours there is no outside reference for the price.
What is the payout on IRR/USD OTC?
It changes during the day and from one asset to another. The box on this page shows the payout read on our own Pocket Option account, refreshed every 15 minutes, with the highest level the asset reaches.
What really moves IRR/USD?
In the real economy, sanctions, oil exports and inflation; on the OTC feed, the platform’s own price source, with no outside reference at weekends.
Which other pairs are only on Pocket Option?
Eight other currencies quoted against the dollar in the same inverted way, and six Gulf and Middle East currencies against the yuan, all listed in the box above.
