Trade when the market is awake

Chapter 2 · Reading the market · 8 min read

The currency market never really closes during the week. It follows the sun: when Sydney goes to sleep, Tokyo is at work, then London, then New York. But the market is not equally alive at every hour. A pair like EUR/USD can move more in one hour of the afternoon in London than in four hours of the Asian night.

Knowing these rhythms is the cheapest edge there is. It costs nothing but a look at the clock, and it avoids a whole family of trades that had little chance to play out.
